I'd never thought of it that way. That's actually really cool! It does have a rather glaring flaw, though, that being that Dirk's narrative control is severed at the beginning of Candy, so he can't be affecting the narrative like that during that moment.


I do think, however, that this could be the explanation behind Lord English's unconditional immortality. As an author-tier entity himself, it's safe to assume that he has similar narrative powers (though his are largely subconscious due to his particular class.) Him destroying his god tier clock in the A7 flash would be a very apt visual interpretation of him exerting his control over that particular narrative device, making it so that it will never rule a death of his neither Heroic nor Just. A control which could only be severed by someone of equal or greater narrative power, like AltCalliope, who, of course, is the one who ends up killing him.


I like this idea a lot.
