My favourite at the moment is Skulder. She's a Madrigog: a cuttlefish-themed alien living on an icy moon. She's currently an apprentice in the Guild of Spies. This isn't as exciting as it sounds, as her chapter of the guild specialises in doing industrial espionage for the Guild of Millipede-Handlers.

Skulder lives in a house-sleigh drawn by two giant velvet worms, which she used to share with her master, Eighm. Eighm is somewhere else now and they aren't supposed to talk, but she still swaps encrypted messages with her apprentice. Skulder is a bit of a Goth and usually dresses in yellow, which is the colour of grief on her world. She is very hard-working, idealistic and utterly paranoid: she thinks there is a grand conspiracy linking the Church, the deep state, and sinister beings called "humans." She's quiet, but can be snarky. Her home is a chaotic mess full of stacks of takeaway containers. Other than Eighm, the only person she trusts enough to open up to is her team-mate Jovall.

Skulder's paranoia is partly justified by events. Two other team-mates were recently wiped out by a nuclear explosion after they broke radio silence, and when she went to visit a third, it led to an outbreak of gang warfare.
