YIIK is my favorite game, and as it seems public perception on it has shifted since the I.V update came out, I'd love to hear from people about their opinions on the game/experiences playing it! I have a feeling it'd likely have a big overlap with Homestuck enjoyers, given how esoteric both are :V

@yourfemperor speaking as someone whose only prior exposure to the game was video essays definitely check it out. with the new updates it's a fun and thoughtful experience with only a few low points carried over from the original build
there was a really long amount of time where all i knew about yiik was that you could make a cute boy kill himself in it

Sorry about the use of the phrase harping on. I wasn't in a good headspace during that initial conversation and was just slightly pissed because it's one of the only aspects of the game I ever see get discussed.
And yeah, ONISM is very strange. It's implied that every alternate capitalization or spelling in a username is a completely different account.

Also yes! I have read the first Deviation Perspective, not the second. I thought it was really good and adds some interesting depth to Vella as a character, and some interesting context for the Kisage X films. Also, her boyfriend in that is like- pretty explicitly implied to be Alex.

(bluh, I feel bad for leaving so many replies I'm just a very scattered person)
It's a very fun very unique experience with both some of the most esoteric, but also some of the most explicit Smack You In The Face symbolism ever. The actual story is a very fun puzzle to piece together, and the picture looks a bit different to everyone.

@yourfemperor tbh yiik is like, homestuck levels of being misrepresented by video essays lol. nearly all of them take the weird abstract extremely-unreliable-narrator plot at total face value and throw in a bit of misinfo here and there to justify a reflexive dislike of the game, and w/ i.v theyre all super outdated since i.v is borderline a new game entirely. it's still not for everyone but give it an honest chance and you might enjoy it!
yea what she said

we need proper replies like, yesterday. anyway I've read DP 1 and the first half of DP 2, and I've been meaning to get around to DP 2 Part 2 for a long time now. DP 2 is like, the kind of cool shit I would only ever expect to get from Homestuck with the way it's written. It's so good I don't think you should bother waiting. But the album is destined to be a hit.... I'll probably buy it anyway

No worries, I really do get it. It gets really fucking annoying. I made a YIIK thread over on Newgrounds on their Clubs & Crews board, and one of the only replies was something along the lines of: "That shitty game everyone makes fun of?" Err... yeah. like, six years ago when it came out and actually blew. No hate to the 1.0/1.25 fans.
Veeery tangentially related, but: There are so many people that bash it that very clearly have not played it, nor do they ever intend to. Which is fine... right up until they sit and parrot shit solely to be negative. I don't get it :T
More positively, over on Twitter ACKK said there was going to be a "cool YIIK announcement" later this month. I wonder what it is. My money's on either a YIIK IV ost vinyl or a physical release for IV. https://x.com/AckkStudios/status/1953102024758743487

I tried to play 1.25 but couldn't really get into it, I think I dropped off midway through the sewer with the Golden Alpaca? I'm hella curious to give the game another shot though after reading through this thread.

FUCK. YES. I really hope it's physical. ...But I wouldn't mind PDF I was really turned off by the fact it was being released on discord of all places
my dream would be a copy of the books that comes with a CD of the accompanying soundtracks...

Finished Yiik NG+. I will probs write up my thoughts in a different like, Thoughts/Questions Thread at some point cause uh, while I'd say NG+ had more of an emotional core and was overall better and more engaging, my thoughts still lean pretty negative overall. Like, if I'd played this through steam I'd probs leave a Not Recommended. That said, it still compels me and I want to engage with its narrative, but I still have some fundamental questions. I'm sure some of them are answered in the... books? But, frankly I'm not left with enough positive feelings overall on Yiik to want to read those.
It certainly was interesting to engage with as a piece of art. I enjoy engaging with art I dislike, I find there's important things to learn in experiencing them. Especially with something like Yiik, which shares so many inspirations to things I do like, it's interesting to see the differences in style and philosophy when it comes to storytelling.
