You know the drill; ask stuff related sburb.EXE! It'll be like the discord channel of yore except not terrible!
hello veri!!!
loving your comic! i was wondering if there were any plans to upload the flash minigames (i assume?) to youtube? they won't load for me and i wanna see em :3
Sburb.exe is so peak how did you assign the colors to each character :'b
>how do you decide what commands get used in sburb.exe?
It's honestly really simple. If it moves the plot forward, is funny, or lets me do something interesting, I include it! If there's no commands I like I come up with something of my own, and that's about it.
Sometimes I put commands I like aside for pacing reasons, and come back to them when I think is "the right time" for them to be used.
>i feel like there's been less silly ones lately
I feel like the comic has been consistently silly for a very long time though! However I did try speeding things up as it were, cause I don't like the pace of one [S] Enter each IRL year, so maybe that makes the whole thing less Constantly Fucking Aroundy.
Many of the sillier commands I get are also just memes, Deltarune references, or plain not funny, so I don't include them. I consider memes and general internetisms to be comedic crutches and have been trying to phase them out of my writing, except when they can be used to ground the comic in its time period. Sorry to anyone whose epic amugus chungus command got ignored.
>do you feel anything about the spirit of sburb.exe has changed ever since you started the comic? what was your favorite era to be working on the comic?
I think nothing really compares to starting the comic for the first time and letting Abby fuck around her house for a hundred pages. I planned very little at the time except some nebulous plot beats I wanted to hit.
Nowadays I am planning in advance WAY more; from drawing floorplans in order to avoid non-Euclidean geometry to specifics of character arcs to room decor symbolism and foreshadowing planted hundreds of pages in advance. There's still a lot of spontaneous bullshit of course (The Sea Monkey bit wasn't planned until I found myself drawing it) but the production of the comic is much more structured than it was in 2022.
>any gag you feel is your favorite thus far / favorite page drawn or published thus far?
I'm very proud of the Hag of Holding and Deathsprite's entire existence. I love writing Deathsprite, I think her dialog is a riot.
I think my favorite page I've drawn is probably this
. I just think it looks cool.
>this is less of a question and more of a request but would you ever consider drawing the kids in your usual more detailed style? i'd love to see how you interpret them :D
For sure! I'd have to make time for it though. Or someone would have to troll me by paying me to draw it.
>i was wondering if there were any plans to upload the flash minigames (i assume?) to youtube?
If anyone wants to do this I'll link to the vids on the pages, I've never recorded gameplay of anything in my whole life so I wouldn't know where to begin.
>how did you assign the colors to each character?
SB and NC are orange and purple, which are Halloween colors. Everyone else just had to look nice next to these two in pesterlogs, that's it. Also I wanted a guy who types in pink.
Also I seem to have missed a couple so here goes
>How much is the story influenced by reader suggestions? How much is planned in advance?
It depends. If a reader suggests something genuinely brilliant I will include it; the story usually finds itself back on track in one way or another. As an example, the Daruma prototyping was reader suggested. Darumas generally get set on fire each year to symbolize renewal, and I found it a very cool way to highlight Kiki leaving their old life behind.
More than that, FW who was introduced the literal next page was immediately understood as a powerful antagonist because of it, as now she can fuck with the heroes wherever a flaming underling might roam. She is going to be a force to be reckoned with, while in another less aflame timeline she might have been just kind of around.
>Was PA being the first character to "speak" and yet being the only of Abby's chums yet to be seen intentional? There's so much tension there, waiting for her to show up, that it manages to fit the tone of the story really well. It's like a horror game. There's always the tension that the rich girl is just around the corner...
The truth is that I've just been blueballing PA fans for no better reason than them being the most psychotic and obsessive on my discord.
Nah, jk. Of course it's on purpose.
I can look into recording the flash games to put up on youtube, shouldn't take too long, will be a good stopgap until that Let's Read reaches it and then you can just like watch that instead.
All-tempting draught. We'll drink of her again.

should be all of them

Were there any inspirations for your characters and which one did you really enjoy designing the most out of the others?
