dirk in the fandom space is a fuckin enigma to me cuz either people get him sooo right or sooo wrong no no inbetween

this is a fanon davekat specific thing but karkat is not "more woke than dave" just cause his culture is predominantly bisexual. karkat has said multiple misogynistic and ableist things that dave has actually called him out for. I'm not saying dave is a perfect unproblematic angel and I'm not saying karkat is EVIL and you should HATE HIM (he's like one of my top 3 favs) but I feel like most people miss this

anyone that makes dave smoke weed, or makes dirk smoke/drink/do anything fun? the enemy of me. and the enemy of this world.

see. it's not even that i have an issue with it conceptually. it's more one of those things that happens with basically every single badly written dave that it tricks your brain into thinking that's the common denominator somehow. like he's smoking the weed that makes you suck. i think house of dirk was the first time i realized it could be done well.

@kevin yeah, that's fair. there's probably something i hate on principle for the same reason, but i can't think of it. i like drawing dave and karkat smoking weed because i love weed #iloveweed

i haaate when people woobify eridan. this is coming from number one eridan lover btw, that guy sucks and doesn't know how to love people (or really be friends, for that matter). yes he's 13 and has his reasons for acting the way he does, but don't excuse his actions? (not to mention his "reasons" mostly aren't very good.) you can just be a fan of a bad guy yknow

Just a few off the top of my head.

-Making Roxy drunk type when she is sober

-Believing everything that the worst characters imply about Porrim and assuming that she has sex with everyone instead of having a fairly normal dating life

-Making Kanaya too nice and saccharine and forgetting what she's actually made of.

-Not understanding the difference between "John and Jake are goofy" and "John and Jake are stupid". Neither of them is stupid. Not even a little bit. Oblivious? Maybe, sure, but intelligence comes in many forms, and 'serious smart people' always have blind spots and weak points too.

-This is an antiquated complaint, but it was so annoying when people had Karkat saying "FUCKASS" every five seconds. Fuckass fuckass fuckass!

i think the worst one for me is people thinking jake is Stupid or a bad person but ive ranted about that in another thread already, he is so badly misunderstood by a lot of people, i cant really blame them honestly because the comic treats him like shit too but its still a bit upsetting,,, another one i hate so much is depicting nepeta as this innocent little thing, its so awful. she kills her own food and lives in a cave!! she paints on her wall with blood!!! she is almost as strong as equius and she can stand up and fight for herself, being silly & sweet ≠ being helpless or weak. thankfully most people are well aware of the fact so its a pretty uncommon misinterpretation, i havent seen it in a WHILE but it still pisses me off when i do. otherwise i think all of the kids are misunderstood to some degree because people forget that They Are Kids, to be fair it is easy to forget but goddamn

I mean the comic later adopts it for ACT 6 and post-canon but the idea that Gamzee is a no nuance murder clown who was always a bad guy. A lot of things contribute to why he lost it and got suckered in to following the script he was given by Doc Scratch, namely looking into the possessed Cal's eyes. This doesn't mean the things he did can be completely excused, there are just reasons for them that aren't being straight up evil.

My specific interpretation, at least of his earlier depiction before he became more of a tool to move the narrative along, is that he was suckered into believing he had a destiny to follow after his entire belief system and single coping mechanism were snatched away from him.

"My goat dad's gone, my entire life has been a lie, my friends don't really care much about me (until i lash out and kill people), what's that? none of this is real and i'm the chosen one all i gotta do is kill my friends? you know wht hell yeah brother i love you cal mwa mwuwum wmwa"

alright, i'm kind of pushing past the boundary of characterization here, but these are still character details and i think true to the intent of the thread! dave's brother does not wear a polo shirt, karkat vantas does not wear a sweater. these are popular fan-interpretations of their outfits that made their way back into homestuck proper thru fan contributions. if you look at how andrew hussie drew the characters in panels, in flashes, in donation sketches, you can see pretty clearly that it wasn't their intent.

i'm making it sound like i'm hating here, but i don't even hate these ideas. it's just like, i want people to know they're headcanons is all. WE HAVE TO DRAW A LINE IN THE SAND, OKAY
