What's your favorite act of homestuck? Act acts allowed. Act act acts. also allowed. Also, why?

this is me getting a bit out of the scope of this thread but terezi really is just such a fucking good character. I often say that aradia is the best character in homestuck and I think I probably do hold that opinion, but there's some who really test that and terezi is 100% one of them. maybe i need to make a favorite character thread... lemme see if that already exists lol brb

the epilogues are the best part of homestuck

Honestly you could hold up any homestuck character and be like 'this is the best character' and 9/10 times I'd be like 'you make a compelling argument I agree' lmfao

I also love the retcon arc. I definitely was a little confused by how sudden June getting retcon powers seemed the first time I read it, but even then I was fully on board with what they did with the story after that point. I definitely agree how good it is for Terezi's character arc. I also like how it sets up the conclusion to several of Homestuck's themes with June being unstuck from canon allowing the character's predestined path to be broken.

Yeah I fully agree. The retcon kinda feels like an asspull on first read then you realize it kinda connects to everything else.

i find all of homestuck so charming and fun, but if i had to pick a favorite act, its def act 5 act 2.

i like tegbruh - user tegbruh

Why act 5 act 2 specifically?

Squiddo

5-2 is the Act that kinda has everything. I mean it's like an entire fifth of the comic for one, but it's where the lion's share of the action, the drama, and the popularity of the series comes from. It's the only part of the story where all four humans and all twelve trolls are involved, it's where Jack, the most intimidating villain, is at his most powerful and unpredictable, it's where god tiers are introduced, where Scratch is at his most manipulative, and it's where god damn butt-fucking Cascade happens.

Like I like the Alpha humans and the cherubs, but Act 6 just doesn't compare to how crazy 5-2 is, let alone 5 as a whole with Hivebent included. I think if we weren't ranking acts and instead ranking parts (a less-common but far more-sensible split, roughly separating 1-4, 5, 6 and 6-6 into about a quarter of the story each), Part 2 would win by a country mile.

Great points lmfao. I fully agree with most of them. Act 5-2 is really a turning point in the comic (though there's several of those) but I also feel like it's the climax of the first half of the comic and what comes after to an extent can put a damper on it in hindsight kinda. Esp if you were reading in realtime, the way act 6 came out and the pacing of it burnt a LOT of people out, so act 5-2 is also kinda the last remnant prior to that.

I just unironically love Act 1. Maybe that's the Computer Science nerd in me, but Homestuck's focus on data structures did eventually lead to me getting 100% in the data structures module in university, so maybe it's the gratitude there?

My PFP isn't Vriska, though I may have stolen her aesthetics.

I definitely liked The Epilogues if thats a valid answer (its part of Homestuck proper) but if not, Act 6 almost by default cos its Half The Comic and has some incredible character moments. It has its lows, but even in its lows I like it.

Act 6 IMO is the best. It is the ultimate culmination of the themes and concepts explored in the first 5 acts. Early act 6 with the alphas flows really well without feeling like a retread or a waste of time (which is kinda how I feel about act 6 act 1. I want to comment more indepth on the entirety of act 6 but I have only read it once and am still in the middle of my reread. The epilogues are a close second if we count them.

act 6 in near entirety is one of my favorite acts, though i also love act 1, its fucking around with the sylladex, and the feeling of a game where we look at everything except the one thing you are supposed to look at because you know you wouldnt be able to backtrack after that

Mine is probably Act 6 Act 6 Act 5. I love the Homosuck acts in general but the Masterpiece has to be the best one by far. It's funny, creative and very important to the plot. The Lil Cal twist is great and I love [S] MSPA Reader: Mental Breakdown.

And that's about it.

act 5 act 2 is just very obviously some of the best fiction ever but depending on the day though i think act 6 act 6 is my favorite. it's a little messy especially at the start and arguably the end (homestuck's arc fumbling is way overstated but does happen a little) but it's also homestuck at its most fascinating, complex, and transcendental, it's the moment where everything it's saying and doing is finally fully developed and it goes from just being an extremely multi-layered and deeply entertaining dramedy to, like, the most shockingly and impressively dense and well-tied-together piece of maximalism ever, at least that i've seen. act 4 is also maybe the most deeply nostalgic part of the comic to me and, despite also being maybe the worst act, i do have a soft spot for act 6 intermission 3. they can't make me hate you openbound...

reading a bit more of this thread act 1, the intermission, and hivebent are also wonderful self-contained stretches of comic. really i kind of have to stop myself from just naming every single act? comic's good folks

ngl I really want to answer this question but I think I need to reread homestuck since I first read it in 2023 but god with my memory it has to be either act 4 or 5, act 6 was kind of a blur in my head while I do think it has some really high highs I do remember feeling a bit exhausted

re: impiouselectrophone

I highly recommend rereading Homestuck, it's a comic that really benefits from rereading over and over. I've probably read it 15-20 times since 2013 and my appreciation of it has grown each time I've revisited it. As with any work of art, you're going to notice new things each time. Different aspects of the work will stick out to you more as you move through different periods in your life.
