rewatching some clips from shin ultraman this morning. i love how all the superhero stuff is framed. to us, it's all totally normal, and we get what it all means. to the onlookers, what they're seeing is totally strange and alien. it's like they're watching animals fighting or something. i have a soft spot for superhero stories told from alternate perspectives (legends of the dark knight from the new batman adventures, gotham central, zot, etc.), and i think japanese stories do that well (with the greek chorus of side characters always chiming in on a battle, to remind us how impressed we ought to be)

I ended up just starting with 1966 Ultraman, I'm a few episodes in and this shit is awesome. I find it really funny how weird Hayata is so far, everyone will just be having regular conversation and he's standing there dead silent just looking around. I'm pretty sure the idea is for him to be stoic but I'm just imagining that he has no idea how to handle social situations.

re:deacon yeah shin ultraman is great. what a movie. im big on all of the shin movies and i hope shin kr 2 actually goes somewhere. im very excited to see what their v3 would be.

i'm a noted gridman and gamera enjoyer, but my metamour is deeply into ultraman and every so often she'll stop a voice call dead to show a clip of ultraman grievously injuring an animal (man in a costume) with cold bloodlusted eyes and it's always the funniest thing in the world. i desperately need to get in on ultraman it seems.

I hope he does "Guy who is also a bike" better than in Ex-Aid. Feels like he dropped that gimmick way too quick.

I love toku..... swear to god there will be a Sentai segment in a fanventure of mine. Someday. Next show I intend to buckle down and watch is Jetman!

Pretty hyped for Zeztz. Not excited about the writer but you can't always get what you want. I'm confused why they made the robot hot though
