the forums never really 'pop off' at quite the rate a large discord would, but id by no means qualify them as 'dead.' theyre about as active as theyve ever been, its just that a lot of the users are asleep right now, and forums are an inherently slower paced place for discussion than social media. (thats part of why i like them so much- the time to formulate my messages and space to articulate myself helps me a lot and the discussions i have on here feel a lot 'better' than the ones i engage in over discord, tumblr, youtube comments etc.) its a lot less hectic which is why im more active here than in the discord

I think you might just have arrived on a slow day. I check the forum twice per day, and sometimes theres only been one post, but sometimes there’s more like 12. Today I opened it up and saw three new posts from you, and nothing else. it’s unpredictable, but not dead.

yeah as other folks have said forums are fairly slow (and this is where id normally make my "unless its the neopets boards" joke but those have long since chilled out). its just one of those things that you check in on, make a post or two, and go do something else for a bit. Now if you happen to be online at the same time as the person you are talking to then things can go at a bit of a decent pace but that has a lot of factors like. timezones.

this place is certainly popping off more than the forums on dappervolk are at least if that helps soothe your concern

In fairness, last month was exhausting amounts of Homestuck. Some people are probably just a bit overwhelmed. Also the site doesn't work on my iOS but Discord does.

I've only been here for like a week but have been posting near daily I love homestuck and especially talking about it!!!

August was a little insane - there was way more activity on here than a half-finished forum could really cope with. I gather a lot of people were so keen because of the toxic mess the old fan-run Discord had become. So they've now migrated to the new Discord. Taking all the worst shit-stirrers with them, I've noticed - I guess it's more rewarding to get reactions to your flames in real time...

Also, to actually add to the discussion, I mostly post on here at school; it isn't blocked, and forums have a nice pace for that. I've heard some other people say they also post on here during school, so I know I'm not alone.

As stated by the people above me, online forums are a much slower paced medium for well holding forum, I usually check here once a day and usually multiple new topics have been made or new replies have been posted to hot topics, I rarely reply because I usually don't have anything meaningful to add that others haven't already added, but seeing as you think the forums are dead means you probably don't scroll other forums often enough to know that the topics per day is actually pretty good for a forum that lacks BBCode support(yes, I'm still salty about the lack of BBCode)and is still in Beta

The forums are currently in Beta, which means they are lacking some key functionalities that will, in the future, allow the community to thrive.

We know the following options are in the works, amongst others:

- Search function

- Free post deletion/lock/edition

- Enriched interface ("Breadcrumbs") for easier navigation

- Text formatting

- Blocking function

- Thread-merging moderation tool

I suppose they are also planning to allow us to integrate hypertext links.

It's difficult to quantify how much the current absence of these functions hinders the life of the forum. A lot, I'd say.

The "Search", "Edit" and hypertext features personally I'm waiting like every messiah in existence, once they are here I'm gonna be connected 24/7.

Also:

- Homestuck^2 was declared dead and now we have Beyond Canon updating all the time.

- The Psycholonials setting was declared dead and now we have Jester Quest.

- The Hiveswap video game was declared dead at every stage of its development and now we have Act 1, Act 2, Act 3 has been re-re-reconfirmed as in development in August and we had multiple spinoff visual novels.

- Homestuck.com was declared dead after the Viz Media incident and now we have a fully functional Homestuck.com.

- MSPFA - both website and servers - were declared lost and now both are back and thriving better than ever.

- Cooperation with large fanworks was declared dead in the water and now we have the FRAF projects.

- The official MSPA Forums died a sad death in 2016 and now we have the FRAF Forums.

- There was no big Homestuck Discord for a thousand years and now we have Homestuck Official.

- The entire franchise was declared to be "stagnating" and now we have the Homestuck Pilot.

I wouldn't bet on the disappearance of any part of the Homestuck franchise anytime soon! Including the present forums!

(Small P.S., that I'll integrate once we get the Edit button: MSPFA is not part of the official franchise. For maximum clarity, it should be separate from the list!)

yeah as other folks said, the forum is slow, esp compared to the discord which is... crazy active. But tbh i like to have the slower alternative. more my pace. plus more room for longer posts and deeper discussions, and more chances to recognize folks and build relationships. The forums are more niche, but they def have their own value
