Henlo everyone!

I've been out of touch with Homestuck and its community for the past couple of years, been getting back into it due to some great fanworks (shout outs to burning down the house!).

I cant quite figure out how the Homestuck brand operates nowadays. From what I've read it seems FRAF is a thing which allows creators to set up patrons and another income avenues to support their fan work, which seems really cool to me! but, was this not allowed before????

I wanted to ask the forum to get a general sense of the zeitgeist around this and how official/unofficial works are handled (not talking about their contents but about how the distribution and production). I've sensed general vitriol towards the HICU lately (in particular coming from the bizarre r/EnglishPumpkinParty community which seems to hold a lot of hate in general, I even thought it was a joke subreddit lol)

I'd love to read what everyone thinks about...

- the development of Hiveswap

- WhatPumpkin (If that even still exist???)

- the HICU

- FRAF

- VIZ Media :skull_emoji:

*Also PLEASE refrain from using this board to shit on particular individuals, It’s fine to call out actions, but don't attack someone’s character or identity. we are all humans trying our best*

So how do we (fans) feel about the current landscape?

The funny thing is that this kind of behavior has always been a thing about Hussie. Remember Bill Bolin?

And that's about it.

they should put me in charge of the homestuck brand tbh

i understand that this thread was posted prior to the reveal that hussie went to great lengths and equivalent legal expenses to try and nuke the objective best way (and for some time the only practical way) to read a webcomic that depends to a greater degree than any other on the web format seemingly to satisfy a personal vendetta.

that said, i don't feel great about it at present! i made an account on this busted forum (that there doesn't seem to be a quote function boggles the mind) for the express purpose of replying to this thread and saying how shitty it feels for the dead horse of a comic i loved and devoted the majority of my teen years get dragged out and flogged again every couple years. why are we even fussing with a whole new forum and all these special projects while the main work that all of them are based around languishes? it's bad prioritization, which has plagued homestuck and MSPA as business ventures from the second they started getting big.

re: hiveswap, lol. lmao even
re: whatpumpkin, lol. lmao even
re: the HCIU, lol. lmao even
you get the idea. at this point my opinion on how the brand is being handled is that hussie should have put their money where their mouth was at the end re: transferring control of canon to the fans and left well enough alone.

development of Hiveswap is fine. I'm an adult and if I get to see progress on the game's development once a year just so I know it's still happening then I'm perfectly happy with that. I didn't like Act 2 all that much but a lot of people did and it looks like the creative team has been shuffled a second time for this third act so I can expect they're at least trying something, and that's all I can ask.

HICU are fine too. they've set out to make a webcomic and are doing a really fantastic job of it so far so I don't know why I should care about anything else.

does Hussie having a breakdown of legal communication with a guy whose project has nothing to do with either of these reflect poorly on the Hiveswap or HICU teams? I don't see why it should

>eats somewhere other than olive garden once

>fucking dies
