I love Homestuck it's my favorite comic what about y'all
"Without love, it cannot be seen."
i think the actual reason "homestuck is bad" is such a prominent opinion is genuinely just because of the divisive ending (and partially the post canon stuff i guess). homestuck is a big investment, in terms of time and energy, even if you didn't read it as it was releasing, so when something that you've put so much effort in and genuinely liked (because, well, if they didn't, they would've dropped it. homestuck is not something you can just casually consume if you don't find enjoyment in at least some part of it) ends in a way you find disappointing, that colors your whole perception of the thing.
it's easier to pretend that homestuck was just bad the entire time and all the good parts you liked were "accidental" or good in spite of the rest of the comic, instead of just admitting that something you were invested in took a direction you didn't like or actually just trying to re-read the comic without your own preconceptions of "what should've actually happened" to understand why the story actually took the turns it did
Homestuck is good!!
parts of it havent aged well, there is a lot of challenging and uncomfortable things you must face, but theres a lot of heart (heh) and moments that will make you laugh and cry. It's worth it. It truly pushed what it meant to be a Web comic. It is a collaboration in many ways that people don't ever really talk about, from the early on reader-inputs, to how Gamzee is named after a prolific RPer on the old forums, to all the art and music contributed by so many people. And that inspired so many others to go on and create their own great things as well. Its full of good memories and bad ones, forged-in-fire friendships and ones that faded away. Theres many things I wish were different but I love it all the same anyway.
The dramatic and mostly performative hate people, both former and current fans, express has always ALWAYS rubbed me the wrong way. I'll admit I've snapped at ppl irl over this even (in my defense its because people assume I also Hate Homestuck if I so much make even a tiny peep about it). Its one thing to just not enjoy a work. homestuck is extremely not for everyone. its another thing entirely to act like its something you need to denounce every other breath just because you enjoy a fanventure or still rp fantrolls.
