I feel like I'm relatively new compared to a lot of the fans I see, I'm just about approaching my 2nd year anniversary of starting homestuck for my girlfriend's birthday. I was meaning to read it anyways because Undertale is my favourite game of all time and it wouldn't exist without homestuck, so I thought it'd be a good idea to read it so I could understand utdr better ad I fell in love. I'd love to hear when other people read it and what first prompted them whether it was a friend or something else. •<|:o).

I started reading right after Cascade happened due to a friend at school and caught up very quickly (way too quickly I didn't read the comic good enough and kinda barely understood it.) I also skipped cascade by accident on my first read because I thought its absurd loading time was another joke by Hussie.

Around 2013-2014. I was 10 or 11 back then, reading the dang thing on my Wii U's internet browser after I stumbled onto a page of the wiki. This meant I had the opposite experience from a lot of people who read it at about that age: the Wii U's browser didn't support Flash, so all I got was gifs at best and a lot of dialogue I'd piece together what happened in the [S]es from. Ironically, I was pretty much convinced that I'd "missed Homestuck" because I wasn't there during the pre-Scratch updates, even though the comic wasn't even finished.

I'd say I probably shouldn't have been reading it at that age, but I was already mired in worse, being a child with unfettered internet access in the late 2000s. Homestuck definitely made me a better person in the long run.

i started homestuck sometime in 2014 using the let's read fandub (i was on an ipad, couldn't view the flashes, and they weren't all easy to find on youtube yet), eventually caught up to where they were, played openbound on my dad's computer, and finally caught up sometime early in 2015, just in time for the last regular updates during a6a6i5! funny enough the final ('final') batch of updates in 2016 came while i was near the end of a reread, which was exciting and a little panicking! i was a really dedicated fan for a few years and even modded a fanserver at one point, but fell off in 2018. since then i only really caught up with postcanon in fits and spurts, but right now the recent hsbc stuff, fraf, and the animated pilot have me more back on board than i've been in a long time!

i read homestuck first in 2018. i was in high school and i was sneaking reading it in class LMAO, my friend was in the same computer room at me and was reading it over my shoulder getting weirded out by the puppets XD

i learned about homestuck due to the popularity of undertale at the time and toby fox's connection to it. (namely megalovania being in it got me curious, although i thought homestuck was "a video game or something" at first).

i wasn't in the fandom back then so i misinterpreted a lot of the comic's scenes and "skipped to the end" when i started Act 6 (fortunately went back and reread it later)

2012 ish? Didn't get far the first 2 times. My best friend kept urging me to try and the third was the charm.
The funny thing is that he long grew out of it and I still am fond of the pre Epilogues stuff.

I only got into it around May 2022. I could've gotten into it sooner, since I knew of it through my brother's friend who cosplayed Dirk in the mid-2010s... I wonder how different I'd be.

Anyways, I don't think you should worry about being a newgen. Just have fun with it, enjoy it for what it is. That's what I try to do, at least.

Oh! Giegue! I loved him… I loved him, as if he was my own child…

I started reading in 2013 or 2014, and it took me a long while to catch up once I reached the alpha kids. Still caught up before things ended, though.

I was in high school in 2012(ish?) when the comic was updating. It was the golden age of tumblr and I devoured the fandom content that was being churned out faster than I could keep up with. I was super into early self-published webcomics (Ryan North stuff, Hark! A Vagrant, Octopus Pie, Rosalarian) and never made the connection that hussie was colleagues with many of them. By that point, Homestuck had surpassed being just another webcomic in the space. While it sprung from that loose network of online cartoonists, it took on a artistic and cultural network of it's own. It was like it's own new primordial goop of younger/newer cartoonists, animators, writers and musicians, creators of all kinds. Homestuck has always been a little messy and the teams have always had to balance a million plates while experimenting in how to be more equitable to creators, and I think without the failures we wouldnt have the successes, or this forum. Here's a video a pal shared with me of an early irl meetup between homestuck contributors at a con!

I kept up with act 1-3 back in the beginning,so I would say i "Started" sometime in late 2010 or early 2011 and still kept up with it largely via peoples live reactions and posts on my tumblr dash. I fully returned to being an active reader when cascade came out. I couldn't very well ignore it. It's never been far from the forefront of my mind since then.

I read Homestuck in 2023 whilst waiting for Deltarune Chapter 3. I was in a Deltarune discord server at the time and all the theorists kept referencing Homestuck, so that egged me on. That, and someone explained Kismesissitude to me and I thought it was cool. Hate-as-romance is my favorite type of relationship.
