To start, here are some of mine:
- I thought Terezi was a boy post-reveal, even though her gender had been mentioned multiple times by that point. Like she looks masc and I'm not going to pretend she doesn't
- I had a concept of who Vriska was but no concept of who she would actually correspond to in the story, so for a while I thought Kanaya was Vriska
- I knew of Kankri because my IRL friend told me about him, but I thought he was a Davekat descendant
- I didn't understand ectobiology and thought that the characters were literally going to grow up and birth the Alpha Kids, then the Alpha Kids would go back in time and birth them, causing a stable time loop
- This technically doesn't count but I thought Eridan was one of my ex friends' OCs before Act 5 because he was a huge kinnie and I had no idea what Homestuck was beyond sharpie bath and Dirk Strider.

From 2012 - 2016, I got secondhand exposure to homestuck upd8s by people I was following on tumblr, so when Caliborn: Enter dropped, I had a really weird perception of what was going on in the comic at that point.
I thought that all of the trolls and kids lived in a house together, and that they'd imprisoned Caliborn in their basement.
I also saw some talk about the kids being killed by LE (in the dream bubbles) being retconned, so I thought it was a given thing that Hussie would kill all of the kids, retcon to like 2 weeks prior, and then do it again.
Here's one: back when the OG Homestuck was updating, I didn't really use social media, like, at all. My Internet was all blogs and webcomics. I started reading HS at the time but didn't get further than Act 2. By the time I did read further, trollmania had long ago died down. So I was probably the one person who had heard of the famous "trolls," but didn't know what the species looked like. At all. I pictured them as hulking great stone-skinned giants, like in Tolkien or Pratchett.

Bruh my brain blocked out the fact that Vriska died until she was shown in the dream-bubbles and I went "wait, she died? So that's why I haven't seen her in a little while" lol.
my first exposure to homestuck was when people shipped homestuck (personified) with hetalia (personified) so i thought it would be at least similar in its tone (⊙_⊙;)
when I actually started reading it years later it was right around the time that davekat kissed and the panel was everywhere so I thought...that would be in the comic...same with June coming out/transitioning so when I finished the story I remember thinking I missed these moments or that they were secret (like trickster mode)orz

I thought Karkat was going to 8e some sort of womanizer rizzgod 8ecause of Karkalicious and the lyrics a8out 8eing shipped with everyone and such. Like I thought that was a core pillar of his character. I also thought all the kids went to high school together and that Dirk showed up way earlier 8ecause he was like. The only kid I had seen 8esides June up until reading.
Misconceptions developed as a byproduct of 2011 Tumblr dashboard osmosis:
- At first I thought trolls spent their entire childhood underground, and that adults lived on the planet's surface.
- I think there was a point where I didn't know about lusii yet but did hear about Doc Scratch and him being some sort of guardian, so I thought he'd be more directly involved in the 12 trolls' upbringing.
- I thought Feferi was a boy for some reason??? (Probably saw genderswap fanart before anything else of her) There was a brief moment reading through Hivebent where I was like "darn, it's too bad that the trolls don't have gender parity like the human kids... *Actually gets to the seadwellers' introductions* Oh wait nvm then. Yay, another girl! :D"
