Can't say I disagree with OP in the sense that regardless of his article, Gio is still a disliked figure by people in the community who'd rather see him stop getting involved. It's not unreasonable to expect a community to not want to interact with people who cause problems. I don't think they or Bambosh were treated very fairly but it's not like that gives him a shield from everything else that people might have against him, including whatever unnecessarily inflammatory things he might've put in the article. For better or worse that's just how fandoms go a lot of the time.

backing off under the guise of "no grounds for a defamation suit" just means that they didn't feel confident that they would win in court, not that nothing slimy or wrong was said. one of the hardest parts of defamation to prove is that it was an intentional, malicious lie on the speaker. if sarah z got all her false information from gio "in good faith," then yes there would be no grounds to sue sarah z. doesn't mean that what she said was true! again, im seeing shockingly childish understandings of how the law works lmao

dealing with legal threats is very stressful and shouldn’t be done lightly. gios own lawyer pointed out to Hussie that he had no libel case for his own articles and he agreed to drop the matter. it reflects very poorly on Hussie how quickly he is to threaten libel for anything that makes his companies look bad. the polite and sane thing to do is say nothing and move on
