I appreciate people who are skeptical in good faith, it is a genuinely good habit to have and honestly I'm not 100% convinced Hussie has Done No Wrong even in this situation, but the way Gio is being framed as a beacon of truth is just bizarre genuinely. hey im sorry you got caught up devin, and i do think there is room for skepticism, but I think a clear hit piece is just not where it's going to come from. i've seen pages and pages and pages and pages of everyone taking gio's word as good and ignoring the actual work that's been put in from the HICU/Miles and even Hussie. if it makes you feel better i always thought you were a real person and if it wasn't for dudes like Shrugged i think we'd actually be able to have a discussion lol.

I wont lie I have felt a bit frustrated at your responses devin but thats more because yours have felt like, actual responses from someone who I feel should get it but doesn't appear to be imo (and I recognize that's largely just part of having a disagreement on the internet). I would take it as a complement.

I feel nothing about atlas shrugged guy I have not read 90% of what he's said in these threads I don't care to read what he has to say because even if he is being genuine he's just at such a fundamentally different place from me that I wrote him off after the first few messages I did read.

I guess I've kind of had my mind changed in recent times, where I used to believe that perhaps Hussie was maybe guilty of legal abuse but now I am just not sure if even that is the case. One on hand, I do believe that Hussie had no real right to take down the actual reader for the UHC, just the asset pack, which would've made the UHC virtually unusable anyway due to the fact you need one for the other to even function lol. Hussie owns the asset pack but not the other stuff, because it's code made by Gio and Bambosh.

But I also agree that Hussie doesn't actually have to work with people who they feel have done them wrong in the past, and they especially don't have to give a license out to use their work to a person they just don't like. There's nothing wrong with that inherently, and I feel like a lot of people seem to think that Hussie is being "mean" by obviously playing favorites with his IP lol. They're well within their right to just not want to do that at all. And Hussie has been really lenient with this person and has made a lot of effort to work with them and other creators. I think trying to frame this as if Hussie wants to take down similar things like other mirrors of Homestuck is ridiculous at best, and intentionally dishonest at worst. Most creators would not even make something like FRAF or HICU if they really "wanted to get rid of their work". Or wanted complete control over their work lol.

I also just feel like Gio has left out a lot of details on his end to put himself in a more favorable light, and it doesn't help that both articles he wrote are littered with what are incredibly petty attacks of character that have nothing to do with the main issue at hand. I also think Gio has no real right to know anything about the inner workings of FRAF or HICU at all, it is indeed like waltzing into a business and demanding the secretary tell you everything and then calling her a corporate shill when she goes "I can't do that and also you're making me uncomfortable."

Thanks guys, I feel seen. I think I've just been burned by watching people and creators I like do bad shit enough that I am definitely acclimated to being burned, so I'd rather be an alarmist than a denialist.

I do think you are actually just someone asking questions. I, in fact, deeply resent being put (not by you tbc) as a die-hard Hussie defender when I actually do think they have done a lot of questionable stuff, and I don't think anyone is tryna argue they haven't made a mess of management in projects. You're not with them, and they're not with you. But you are useful to them. And this not me telling you to thus stop posting. But to be, as you seem to want to be, mindful about who's next to you in a conflict.

Also i am kind of curious about this case if Hussie ever does decide to pursue legal justice or whatever, because...well what rights or grounds does a creator have for someone who is distributing their work like this? Idk and I don't know a lawyer who I could ask honestly I am thinking of just trying to find one and ask them about this whole drama because I am a bit curious.

In regards to the main topic, I don't really think Hussie has handled this in the best way possible. Do they have legal grounds to do what they want here? Sure.

Does that mean she should? I don't feel like it's so. At the end of the day, it would have been better to just leave Gio alone and decide against collaborating on the UHC; if Gio then decided to shit stir and made a big article about how their collaboration fell through, I feel it would be far better received by the greater fan space for Hussie to then reciprocate.

Instead, we're left with a situation where most people only immediately see Hussie using legal action because of what is being termed as "Strong arming" and 80% people are not going to delve deeper or look into this to form their own unique perspective. This all felt rather avoidable with hindsight.

Imo I wouldn't have ever worked with Gio lol. I would've just continued ignoring Gio the whole time and probably just put more resources towards either making my Official Collection or just fixing the main website. I think Hussie's heart was in the right place, however, since most of the fandom had been using the UHC for a long time so just bringing in the people who made it already would've been a good bridge to fix things and potentially patch things up, but idk sometimes it's also best to just not mess with other people who you know you've already had a disagreement with in the past and who you know you don't like.

Hindsight is 50/50 I suppose lol. I can't speculate on whether or not Hussie had actual ulterior motives because I don't know them personally, and anything else just seems like gossiping and speculation and conspiracy lol. That's how you end up with that second article where you accuse other people who got licenses from this guy of being under his thumb T_T

Just to cap off with one little thing, I do take discussions of transmisogyny very seriously, and I totally get the claims that Gio is, at the very least, extremely negligent and careless with his passionate fervor describing all the ways Hussie and everyone who works for him is terrible, in ways that look suspicious whenever the transfem members of the group are on the receiving end of his self-righteous fingers. Whenever someone is in the discourse news for doing something awful and it happens to be a trans person, I tend to disengage even if I think they might be guilty because I just absolutely cannot stand the idea of being part of the specific kind of callout culture that attacks trans people in specific for things that have nothing to do with what they may or may not have actually done wrong. I personally have "he/fuck" as my pronouns cause I probably am in some state of gender questioning right now, just not a coherent one (is 'furry' a gender?).

I think a general problem for all this is that we're all in a state of grief, either that someone sowed discord with Homestuck (pun intended) or that Hussie did a shitty thing, and we'd all rather that not be happening, but we're all kind of powerless to actually do anything, so we lash out at each other. We all would just rather be excited that Beyond Canon is doing well, that Hiveswap is getting new info in October and that we might legitimately see Homestuck the animated series exist. So a lot of us either put up huge emotional walls to defend against critique, or else dive directly into the doomer end of the pool. I think I saw James leave last month and felt like there was something big coming, and just latched onto this when it did. I still feel bad for Bambosh, though. I'm glad that mostly nobody I've seen has been blaming him for what happened.

Anyway I meant to peace out with the Sonic 06 thing the first time but now I'm doing it for real bye

if hussie wanted this matter handled gracefully he should have simply left the licensing and other matters to Miles directly. the commonality between egregious demands of people and legal threats has always been Hussie.

We're sorry to bump this thread but we've been busy since starting to read it and just caught up and we saw a point to address.

The webapp version of the reader that Gio hosted got taken down some time ago, but the desktop app is still readily available on the GiovanH/unofficial-homestuck-collection repo. To my knowledge Gio has not made any claims of legal action against the reader application itself.

(Note: this is a clarification, not a defense. As much credit as we'll give Gio for his work on TUHC 2.x, we still have no love for the guy after the Homestuck Renaissance era harassment he contributed to)

hussie has the right to sue anyone using homestuck stuff off the face of the planet, but i think she shouldn't have given bamboosh (and by extension, gio, though i think it's always morally justifiable to fuck with homestuck redditors) the runaround for as many months as she did. just sue and get it over with, don't pretend to want to work together with someone you hate.

@Dream they did want to work with Bambosh, and if they HAD to work with Gio they would have with their stipulations. It's not that they're pretending to want to work together, but were willing to work with someone they didn't trust if they could make it so he would have to be trustworthy. It could have also been they had to actually check with other people and had to do some back-and-forth behind the scenes, which wouldn't have been the most professional, but clearly from Gio's own screenshots he was hardly a professional here either.

their stipulations being things that gio was realistically never going to do. i think they would rather die than take down their hiveswap articles. all playing nice at first did was waste everyones time, imo.
