Makin has never said that he condones homophobia unironically - when he did it was ironic. He does that. Is that good? Not really, he's a figurehead, he should watch his words more. Do people like that he does that? No.

There is a valid point some people almost reached here, the HSD allows slurs and ironic bigotry, moderation does have to somehow tell apart the allowed forms of bigotry (e.g. saying your friend is gay for liking oneshot) from the banned forms. This has lead to problems before: there have been several people in the history of the server who were banned after years of vaguely swaying between irony and sincere homophobia/transphobia/racism. But thing is, this is not because of Makin's actions, it is because he gave power to the people that it is like this. The server would be rid of all toxicity if he did control it personally. But it would just be endless Worth the Candle discussion.

Honestly I think at a certain point, if a space has a bad enough reputation for transphobia that kinda speaks for itself. I mean sometimes there's alternate explanations, like transfem spaces being called transphobic for not putting up with transmisogyny, but... Idk, weirdly I get the impression that isn't likely the case here.

Everyone here has a story about how awful an experience it was to be in that community and honestly, the fact that the bad actors from said community have flocked to this specific thread to engage in even more behavior for why it was such a terrible experience for so many people just illuminates the point the original poster was really trying to make all these pages ago. Even though Makin doesn't control any of these spaces, it's clear that he has at least garnered a safe space for bigotry in general, and that just isn't a healthy environment for any fandom to have. The fact that so many people who are just downright terrible feel so secure in being around him and in those spaces, is proof enough to me at least that something like FRAF was a long time coming, and that weak attempts at trying to make FRAF more and more like those other places will fail ultimately, since this is a space where people can push back against that bigotry without feeling pressured from all sides like in a Discord or Subreddit.

Worth the Candle is really good tbf, maybe the server should be endless discussion of it (I'm not done with it yet)

Have not really been engaging with this thread outside of lurking, but I do want to say: While I think it would be a bad idea to attempt to rebuke most of the points and arguments being made towards you (particularly since it is clear that most of the people here do not have a high opinion of you and I doubt any answers you could have given would satisfy) I question the motive behind coming into a thread and selectively choosing to reply only to the most benign offtopic comments with more derailing offtopicry. I get that it's probably to troll but if anything it just comes off as really unprofessional and is not helping your case. You could have just not replied to the thread.
