And they're "not official" but they were the only places for a long time even to get information on this comic, it is a bit weird to just not acknowledge that IMO and it shows you are coming at the conversation with the intent just to handwave the actual problem.

FR, the mod icons are a pretty straightforward system. Anan I never said that you were wrong, I said it was reductive, as I imagine necessitated by it not being the main point of this thread, which is why I suggested branching off to focus on it (because I genuinely believe it to be a worthwhile discussion). But of course you don't have to, because I am not a mod :)

Obviously Makin has only happened to build his 'brand' around Homestuck social spaces by just starting them early enough and maintaining them. It was funny seeing advertising on the forums he did day 1-2 for the discord lol, and seeing him always promoting them if he sees an in, as previously mentioned in this thread.

Since you seem to be regular users of the discord (and i presume reddit), what do you think about Makin deleting/heavily pruning the reddit to lean more towards Gio's blog posts? It's pretty clear he has a... very particular perspective.

just because someone created those spaces, and someone such as op realized this only recently, does not mean the spaces nor the person running them is except from criticism even if the main critique someone has is "we really should have a bigger diversity of fan spaces run by different people" and even if that person is also using the forum.

if anything it all being one guy is a pretty obvious point of failure like if something happens to him or if he just gets fed up and decides to go scorched earth then what happens?

@elegantspinstress coming back in here for a moment just to say that yeah this was an account clearly made just to argue. Ignores everything we say and deflects everything. Gets presented with evidence, ignores it. Gets presented with counterpoints to her arguments ignores it. Pretends to care about transmisogyny while ignoring blatant examples of it. putting words in other peoples mouths, and committing it herself. We should probably all just ignore her tbh and just let others know she's just like this.

Like, once the old forums died there was no other hub for the fandom, and Hussie and WhatPumpkin where in no rush to create a replacement.

It took almost 10 years for a semi-official alternative, this forums, to show up.

So like, I cannot fault Makin for creating actual spaces for Homestuck fans, when the apparent alternative was having nothing at all.

I don’t use Reddit, it’s a website for losers. I also don’t think it’s very productive to just be speculating about Hussies gender. Something which he has never publicly commented on.

I don’t think it’s a great sign of trans misogyny to view hussies alleged coming out scene limited to a paid game and using language that obviously invites contempt for the concept with Suspicion. frankly this just seems to be a ton of fans reading what they want to see in the concept despite Hussie continuing to act exactly like he did before the ‘reveal’

If you don’t like that Makin has large spaces which he made, just make your own spaces. What is your alternative? Do you want to take the spaces away from him?

also for what its worth they at one point werent the only spaces available (and technically still arent not just because of fraf but mspfa also has their own stuff), but there were other forums like msparp's forum, if we want to count pesterchum (which last i checked was revived to work on current hardware?) with how you could randomly chat with someone, or join/make group chats.
all my examples are rp focused because thats a lot of where my attention went but the point is those werent the Only Spaces that existed nor do they have to be (and they arent!) they are just very big and active.

I don't think anyone is really suggesting that Makin is at "fault" for creating the discord or even maintaining the reddit - but i think especially with the way he's been trying to control the narrative and also what people see regarding gio's blog posts it's reasonable for people to be concerned about him having control over a lot of the social spaces. So it is a good thing that the forums exist! I feel like there are a decent amount of other Homestuck discords (though less... heavily advertised lol) but they might just not have The Most Members, which honestly to me is a plus. I cannot even imagine trying to have a discussion at the speed most of them must go, yikes. Would people prefer an ACTUAL 'Official' Homestuck Discord though? like the FRAF forums?

Also I don't think the thread has to be abandoned, but we can all ignore the trolls.

@rosebot yeah and im ngl i feel like there's been more of a push by certain people to make the FRAF forums seem like this divisive place where there's always arguing and fighting. I mean this thread was originally about how Makin was problematic and I didn't even know that it went that deep to the point of him just being transphobic or whatever, but the fact that he owns all those spaces to begin with just explains why they're so fucking awful to be in to begin with. It's at least made me thankful that I managed to find other spaces for myself after I left the reddit and that godawful discord.

If anything, I think maybe there should be a different reddit as well. I sometimes feel like the reddit is this hivemind where people downvote the most popular circlejerky opinion to the end of time, and the only reason it's changed for the better is because of the influx of new fans who like Hazbin making crossover art and actually talking about what parts of the comic they like.

I have seen the same people in other threads about more serious topics trying to just blatantly ragebait or get into fights with other people lol, they will have never posted once at all and then suddenly they are in a thread arguing some inane point that the original poster wasn't even making. I am making a mental list of who to just ignore and not talk to until they make a block button, or a mute button.

The idea that Makin controls the Homestuck community is absurd, the only place he actually is in charge of is the r/Homestuck subreddit and weakly the Homestuck Discord, where his role is choosing moderators, making news posts and being a figurehead. Half the time that he actually tries to directly do anything about the server, such as making actual moderation decisions, the server revolts against him and splits in half. And in the case that a moderator that he chose is hated by the server's members, they are ripped apart, their actions are reverted and they are forced to vow to never moderate again. And I believe that is good. I hate Makin and don't want him to be in control.

Regarding transphobia, I can't really pitch in on that because I don't believe it's a productive topic since no one here seems to care when any actual trans person criticizes Hussie, only when Makin does.

There's also a Pumpkin Party Discord and that's very hectic
